Befesa has around 2,000 employees and is represented in 19 countries across the globe. The company processes 2.6 million tons of industrial waste annually, with almost half this amount recycled – saving more than a million tons of CO2 per year.
Befesa has the capacity to desalinate a million cubic metres of seawater per day, equivalent to the daily requirement of 4.5 million people. In addition to water desalinisation and treatment, Befesa’s core competences include the creation of suitable infrastructures for water supply, including hydraulic pump systems.
Befesa primarily focuses on the technical planning of projects, but also takes on tasks relating to construction. Project managers work with external engineering offices and contractors, who are frequently located all over the world. In addition to the efficient coordination of numerous project partners, project documentation is of the utmost importance. Befesa was looking for a suitable infrastructure for these purposes, so in 2007 the company decided to use the online project collaboration system, think project!, to support a construction project in Chennai, India.
In a joint venture, Befesa and the Indian company IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects are building a desalinisation plant in southern India. Befesa is solely responsible for the turnkey construction of the plant and its operation for 25 years. It is planned that the plant will treat 100,000 cubic metres of water per day to supply Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu state.
