As an ideally located import and export nation with advanced industry capabilities, Germany needed a national deepwater port that would service the next generation of large container ships, while being accessible without tidal constraints. With the construction of the new port, the city of Wilhelmshaven will become a central hub for container shipping services, as well as national rail and road, and European sea transit traffic.
The JadeWeserPort terminal covers an area of 130 hectares. In the immediate vicinity, there will be a 160-hectare logistics area, essential for European trade.
The largest contract for the project, with a value of 480 million euros, was awarded in September 2007 to the JadeWeserPort bidding consortium, consisting of Josef Möbius Bau-AG, Heinrich Hecker and Ludwig Voss under the leadership of the Papenburg-based company Bunte. This particular contract encompasses construction of the quay and adjacent port areas. The JadeWeserPort corporations use the online project collaboration platform, think project!, to manage all plans and documents.
