Baku Crystal Hall

A crystal on Baku’s harbour

Baku Crystal Hall was built for the international music competition, the Eurovision Song Contest, which was hosted 2012 by Azerbaijan in its capital city Baku.

Project profile

Completed on time just before the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2012, construction company ALPINE officially handed the brand new multifunctional Baku Crystal Hall over to the client – Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Property Issues. Following its official inauguration with the Eurovision Song Contest, a wide variety of major events can now be held in Baku Crystal Hall.

ALPINE built Baku Crystal Hall in a record time of just eight months. As general contractor, ALPINE subsidiary ALPINE Bau Deutschland AG was responsible for its planning and construction. ALPINE realised the construction together with a project team consisting of NÜSSLI Group, gmp International GmbH, Basler & Hofmann AG and SSF Ingenieure AG.

Based on the shape and structure of crystals

The architectural facade that gives the building its name is based on the shape and structure of crystals, the 230-metre long by 160-metre wide arena situated on Baku harbour is encased by a translucent membrane to protect up to 25,000 spectators from sun and rain. More than 80,000 lights are integrated into the facade, making the building shine and sparkle impressively at night.

ALPINE decided for think project!

ALPINE Bau Deutschland chose to use think project! to support the construction of Baku Crystal Hall. It had already been used in the construction and renovation of several stadiums used for the 2012 European Football Championship, including the National Stadium in Warsaw and the PGA Arena in Gdansk, to support processes for design and document management, ordering and invoicing.
