Energy from the sun
Our sun produces 400 septillion – or 400 million billion billion – watts of energy every second, with the same production expected for another five billion years.
To profit from this virtually unlimited energy source, different forms of generating electricity from the sun have emerged in the last few centuries. One of these is solar thermal energy, which concentrates light from the sun to create heat to generate electricity.
In Spain, which is one of the global leaders in this field, FCC Energía is building a new solar thermal plant in Villena, Alicante. The 50 MW energy plant will produce 110,000 MWh per year, and will cost 240 million euros to build.
The main reason for using a collaboration platform like think project! is handling the massive number of documents that are generated for different purposes, including engineering documents (drawings, technical reports, etc), meeting minutes and permissions such as resolutions, authorities’ requirements and the like. It’s very important to keep all that information well structured and accessible from everywhere in the world.

Adrenalin and luxury
Motorsport enthusiasts across the globe agree that the Ascari Race Resort provides one of the most exclusive and finest race tracks in the world.
Total gross floor space: 7,000 m²
Hotel: 2-story main building, 27 suites, restaurant, bar, spa, patio
Suites: 1 luxury suite (450 m²), 24 suites (75 m²), 2 suites (155 m²)
The Ascari Race Resort is named after Alberto Ascari (1918–1955), the first driver to win the Formula 1 world championship twice. Completed in September 2003, the course is located in southern Spain, 10 kilometres from the historic town of Ronda, and owned by Dutch multimillionaire and avid racing driver Klaas Zwart. The 5,435 metre track includes 26 curves, inspired by famous courses such as Daytona and Silverstone, putting its elite visitors to the ultimate test.
In contrast to the non-stop action on the track, the Ascari Club House offers a cosy atmosphere, with an idyllic terrace overlooking the race track and a picturesque Andalusian vista.
Luxury hotel adds to high-class atmosphere
In order to complete the exceptional experience offered by the Ascari Race Resort, a luxury hotel, providing high-quality relaxation after the exertions of a day’s motor racing has been added. To turn this dream into reality, wpm Projektmanagement GmbH was initially contracted as project controller, and shortly afterwards given responsibility for general planning.
wpm chooses think project!
wpm had already had experience of the online collaboration platform think project! during several projects, so decided to implement it for the Ascari project. Good communication is essential – especially as wpm designers are based in different locations – and because huge volumes of data need to be exchanged during a project of this scale. Distance between all parties involved was eliminated, and wpm always had the latest information at its fingertips to provide its client with up-to-date information at any time.
Simplified coordination process creates more time for design tasks
After successful use during construction of the Las Colinas de Marbella holiday resort, Spanish architects allende arquitectos decided to work with think project! on an on-going basis.
Project developer: Hines Spain
Hotel operator: Mandarin Oriental
Ground size: 46,000 m²
Hotel: Luxury hotel with 53 rooms and spa
The renowned Spanish architecture office, allende arquitectos, was founded in 1982 and has been the recipient of numerous awards. To allow the team of architects to concentrate on design tasks, day-to-day operations need to be structured and standardised – but day-to-day cooperation with numerous project partners across the globe poses organisational challenges. allende arquitectos decided to look for a tool that would significantly simplify and accelerate communication processes. The company initially chose think project! to support the construction of a large holiday resort in southern Spain with the appealing name Las Colinas de Marbella (The Hills of Marbella).
Demanding project coordination for the construction of a luxury resort
The project was built over 46,000 square metres and involved the construction of a luxury hotel with 53 rooms and its own spa, 69 additional apartments with hotel service, 83 holiday flats and 18 villas. The project team worked from various locations, including Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid and Marbella. The communication process between designers allende arquitectos, project developers Hines Spain and hotel operator Mandarin Oriental was especially complex.
Simplified coordination through structured communication
All project communication and the management of project documents was controlled via think project!. Detailed clarifications were carefully documented and numerous coordination processes greatly simplified thanks to structured communications. The time needed for face-to-face meetings was reduced, leading to significant cost savings – particularly as the project partners were so distant from each other.
Long-term decision in favour of think project!
think project!’s ability to adapt flexibly to specified communication methods during the Las Colinas project impressed the allende arquitectos project team. At the beginning of 2007, allende arquitectos decided to use think project! as its standard collaboration platform for project organisation whenever external project partners are involved.
