More and more European countries are discovering the extent that sea tides, waves and offshore wind can play in generating electricity.
The use of these renewable energy sources has become necessary to meet European climate and energy targets.
Transmission grid operator TenneT provides the necessary submarine electricity transmission lines in the North Sea. Development and construction of these powerful offshore transmission grids and converter platforms are unique throughout the world.
Since 2006, TenneT has been legally obliged to provide grid connections for offshore wind farms within its German transmission grid area. TenneT group subsidiary TenneT Offshore is responsible for taking on the design, planning, construction and operation of connection lines at sea – right through to the grid connection point on land. The grid connection procedure and subsequent grid operations of the offshore network will then become the responsibility of TenneT.
TenneT commissions general contractors to implement the grid connections. During the projects, several thousand documents are created and must be exchanged and managed in a structured way between TenneT and its contractors. To achieve this, TenneT decided to use online project collaboration platform think project!.
