Longest motorway in Germany upgraded with Thinkproject
To meet deadlines, this Public-Private Partnership project called on Thinkproject to keep tasks on schedule.
Project
The Federal Motorway A7 is the longest motorway in Germany and one of the most important north-south connections between Scandinavia and Central Europe. Running from the Danish border to the Austrian border, it is one of the most heavily used traffic routes within Germany.
As of 2020, 29.2 km of the 60 km project route will be expanded and modernised whilst remaining in operation. Works include a six-lane expansion of a 29 km section of 29 kilometres, and ongoing operation and maintenance over a period of 30 years.
This Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project is owned by the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the State of Lower Saxony, which in turn is represented by the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport. Contractors VIA NIEDERSACHSEN, along with VINCI Concessions Deutschland GmbH (50%) and Meridiam Investments SAS (50%) are responsible for the planning, expansion, modernisation and operations.

Challenge
The main challenge for this project is the need to keep the highway open and fully operational during construction works. Therefore, project owners and contractors require a high level of transparency and clear communication to avoid delays.
Solution
Thinkproject has successfully supported other PPP projects with Document & Communication Management, meaning CDE INFRASTRUCTURE was chosen as the shared platform between parties for drawing and document management.
With the ability to customise project-specific workflows, all parties can work holistically and in a structured manner. Thinkproject’s high flexibility means drawing management can be optimised to increase efficiency.
Result
All parties received tasks through automated workflows, providing a single source of truth audit trail. With built-in reminders, time management for deadlines and upcoming due dates were easily visible, allowing teams to stay on-track.
